  • 1/3 cup Farafena Fonio Grain
  • 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Instructions

  • Heat a medium frying pan over medium high heat (no oil).
  • Add fonio and stir until it begins smoking and just begins to change colour and develop a nutty aroma.
  • Add broth slowly and stir into hot grain (liquid will bubble up and boil). Add salt.
  • Keep stirring until the water disappears.
  • Fonio Grain will absorb broth and begin to fluff up. Stir for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from element/burner and cover with lid.
  • Set aside for 5 minutes.
  • Remove lid and stir the Fonio with a fork.
  • Fonio is ready to use in salads or side dish.
